A graduate of Cedarville University and Capital Bible Seminary, Pastor Nate has a BA and an M.Div.
He has been the pastor of FBCM since April 1997. His first ministry out of seminary was a hospital chaplaincy for thirteen years.
Pastor Nate's passion is to preach the Word. He has been preaching for more than thirty-seven years, and it is his calling from God. From a human standpoint, the people who have influenced him the most were his childhood pastor, Merle Booth, then Jack Keep and Jim Holmes. In college Robert Gromacki gave him a love for Greek, and James Grier a passion for thoughtful Biblical theology. In seminary Homer Heater imparted a deep appreciation for Hebrew, and Richard Taylor increased Nate's love of Greek. Over many years, John Piper, Mark Dever, Albert Mohler, and RC Sproul have been a great inspiration to pastor Nate.
Opening and teaching God's Word is Nathan Rehn's life long obsession.
He is blessed to be married to a great woman, Charlotte, now for forty-two years. They have nine children, six are married, and they have eighteen grandchildren, living on two continents. By God's grace, all of their children are walking with the Lord.
God has blessed his family greatly!
Psalm 127 is one of pastor Nate's top 150 favorite Psalms:
“A SONG OF ASCENTS. OF SOLOMON.
Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”
(Psalms 127:0–5 ESV)
A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH:
First Baptist Church of Monterey was founded by a small group of Christians who were hungry to have their own local church. In the past they had traveled to Salinas to attend a church that fit their convictions, but this grew taxing on their time and resources, and so they began to meet together for prayer right here in their own city! The group began to grow, and by April of 1910, a young lady named Bessie McKim decided to organize a Sunday School to care for and teach the young children of those who attended the prayer meetings. God continued to bless the group and more and more members were added to their numbers. With that in mind the group decided to take the next logical step: They held their first service! That was ….
