Our goal is to bring glory to God who has revealed Himself to us in the truthful and trustworthy Bible. We do this in joy and gladness through authentic worship, vibrant Bible teaching and effective service here in Monterey, and to the farthest ends of our world!

First Baptist Church of Monterey has been around for over one hundred years, and we continue to hold fast to the truth that brought us together back in 1910: That God loves us and has saved us by his wonderful grace!

We are totally conservative in our beliefs, yet authentic and fresh in our outlook. We have a great respect for our theological roots in the Great Reformation, which began in 1517 with Martin Luther. The Bible is our rule of faith and practice, and the Grace of God is our joy.

1689 London Baptist Confession

While we do not fully affirm the 1689 Confession it is a wonderful historical document, and our basic doctrine is declared in it.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH:

First Baptist Church of Monterey was founded by a small group of Christians who were hungry to have their own local church. In the past they had traveled to Salinas to attend a church that fit their convictions, but this grew taxing on their time and resources, and so they began to meet together for prayer right here in their own city! The group began to grow, and by April of 1910, a young lady named Bessie McKim decided to organize a Sunday School to care for and teach the young children of those who attended the prayer meetings. God continued to bless the group and more and more members were added to their numbers. With that in mind the group decided to take the next logical step: They held their first service! That was ….
